Sallisaw senior Nelson Suarez will get the opportunity to extend his baseball career after signing a letter of intent to play for Bacone College.

Warrior head coach Ryan Bay was in Sallisaw on Tuesday to collect the signature of Suarez, who played catcher and batted third for the Black Diamonds.

Suarez was one of the leaders on a young Sallisaw team that beat Hilldale for a district championship and advanced to the regional playoffs before closing its season with a record of 16-14.

Sallisaw head coach Larry Coleman said Bacone is getting a quality player in Suarez.

"They're getting a good catcher. He's like a coach on the field and he takes care of a lot of things a coach doesn't have to-he's just a field general," said Coleman. "Nelson is really smart and he's got a lot of baseball knowledge. He does a great job."

Bacone College is located in Muskogee and plays in the NAIA. The Warriors are members of the Red River Athletic Conference and placed third in the South division with a 10-5 league record. They were 27-17 overall.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
