Two California residents were arrested by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) Monday after being stopped on Interstate 40 with 90 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Brandon Remijo Chavarria and Jennifer Galache, both of Anaheim, Calif., were booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on charges of trafficking in a controlled dangerous substance. As of Tuesday, they were each being held on $25,000 bonds.

OHP Trooper Cody Hyde said the pair was stopped for speeding on Interstate 40 near Vian. Hyde said Chavarria and Galache told him they were traveling to Virginia, but gave conflicting stories about what they were doing in Virginia.

Hyde issued the couple a warning for speeding, and asked if he could search the vehicle. Hyde said he asked Chavarria if he was going to find drugs in the vehicle, and Chavarria admitted that he had a "little bit of meth."

Hyde did find some remnants of methamphetamine in a glass smoking pipe. OHP Trooper Shawn Griffey later found more drugs wrapped in plastic bags underneath the dash of the vehicle.

The two were arrested without incident.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
