A Fort Smith, Ark., man was arrested and charged for a May 27 incident in which a 13-year-old girl claimed he molested her.

Kyle Adam Pound, 22, was charged June 6 with lewd molestation, domestic abuse assault and battery, and public intoxication.

Sequoyah County Sheriff's Deputy Greg Cox reported receiving a call at about 2 a.m. May 27 from a Sequoyah County home in reference to a drunk person in the homeowner's yard, according to court records.

The 13-year-old later told police that the incident started because of her. When asked why she thought it was her fault, the girl told Cox that she was asleep when Pound started to feel her chest and began kissing her. When she told him no, Pound allegedly started hitting her.

When Cox arrived at the scene, he spoke to a woman at the home who said that her boyfriend, Pound, had just left the home on foot. He was discovered by sheriff's deputies walking down the road and was arrested for public intoxication and taken to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw.

During Cox's investigation, the woman told Cox that she, her boyfriend and her daughter were staying the night at another couple's home. She said that she was asleep on the couch, with Pound on the floor next to her and her daughter on the floor nearby. The woman reported that she awoke to the sound of Pound hitting her daughter.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
