A Muldrow man allegedly assaulted an officer early Thursday morning after being arrested for being involved in a fight.

Muldrow Police Chief Tony Lewis said Officer E.T. Bowden responded to a call about a fight in progress at the parking lot of 7th Street Apartments in Muldrow at about 5:15 a.m. Thursday.

Lewis said upon arrival, Bowden broke up the fight and took one of the men, Michael N. Lynn, 37, of Muldrow into custody and transported him to the Muldrow City Jail.

But during the booking process, Lynn, who was intoxicated, became violent and attempted to gain control of Bowden's weapon, Lewis said.

"The officer thwarted the suspect's attempt," Lewis said.

During the incident, Bowden suffered a black eye.

At some point after the incident, Lynn, whose mouth was bleeding from the fight in the parking lot, spit blood that he had in his mouth into Bowden's face and on a detention officer's face.

Lewis said Lynn, who is believed to be a convicted felon, could face charges of felony assaulting an officer by deposaiting bodily fluids, assault on an officer, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace. Charges are pending with the district attorney's office, he said.

Lynn was later transferred to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw.

Lewis said the officers who were spit on will be tested for any communicable diseases, but Lewis noted that there was not anything in Lynn's booking information that showed a communicable disease.

The man that Lynn allegedly fought in the parking lot of the apartment complex was taken to the hospital as result of the injuries he sustained in the altercation. The other man may face misdemeanor offenses.
