A mobile home fire on Ranch Road, just off Moonshine Road northwest of Vian, damaged the home Wednesday but no injuries were reported.

Dana Tracy, Rural Fire Protection District 1 fire chief, said the fire was reported at about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday.

"We got a call that the fire was at the Shirley Malone residence," Tracy reported. "When we got there the bedroom was fully involved, with flames coming out the windows."

Tracy the fire department arrived at about 5:10 p.m. and had the fire extinguished by 6:30 p.m. The Rural Fire Protection District fire department was assisted by fire departments from Gore, Webbers Falls and Blackgum.

"The bedroom was heavily damaged, and the rest of the mobile home received heavy smoke and water damage," Tracy said. He estimated the damage to the mobile home's contents at about $6,000 and the damage to the 60-foot by 16-foot mobile home at about $10,000.

The fire chief believes the fire may have begun at or near a breaker box in the bedroom. "Most of the damage was on that wall" where the breaker box was located, Tracy said.

He added that his fire department sent a fast dash truck and three pumper trucks to the fire, which were operated by eight firefighters.

"We'd like to thank all the other fire departments which came to our aid," Tracy said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
