"We are currently on critical appeal for O+ and O- blood types," Jeremy Simpson, United Blood Services donor recruitment representative, said. "This drive is especially important because it is being held right before Labor Day weekend."
According to Simpson, participation drops off slightly at summer blood drives. Donations also drop in the summer because high schools, which are enthusiastic blood drive sponsors, are not in session.
"Although those types of blood are in critical need, we do need all blood types. Patients continue to need blood of every kind. Eligible blood donors are encouraged to give blood regularly, three or four times a year, to keep hospital shelves stocked with lifesaving blood."
Simpson urged residents to be heroes and make time to save lives. He suggested that those who are not able to donate recruit others in their place.
Anyone interested in donating may contact Cheryl Mills, Cookson Hills Electric customer representative, at 775-2211 or Janet Campbell at 1-800-934-9415 to schedule an appointment.
