"Please take an hour of your time to help save someone's life and to help prepare for our blood supply for Labor Day weekend," Jeremy Simpson, donor recruitment representative for United Blood Services in Fort Smith, Ark., said.
Simpson said that in the summertime, "United Blood Services can really feel the heat. Summer blood donors often are in short supply because they're on vacation or involved in summer activities.
"The demand for blood is constant, even in the summer months," Simpson said. "It's important that people remember to take some time out of their busy schedules to donate during May, June, July or August to help maintain a safe and plentiful supply of blood for our community."
Simpson said the demand for blood is growing, as medical care becomes more complex and as baby boomers age.
"To make sure patients have blood when they need it, we invite all current donors to give at least three times a year, and we invite anyone who hasn't given in a while-as well as brand new donors-to join them, " Simpson said.
Contact Janet Campbell at 1-800-934-9415 or Helen McGraw at the hospital at (918) 774-1154 to make an appointment to donate blood. Simpson also said that walk-ins are needed.
