Over 200 exhibitors from six different states will gather in eastern Oklahoma for the 36th annual Fin and Feather Fall Festival set for Sept. 24, 25, and 26 at Fin and Feather Resort located on State Highway 10-A on the west side of Lake Tenkiller.

The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 24 and 25 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 26. There is no admission charge to the show and parking is free.

From its conception in 1969, the festival has steadily increased in size every year and is now one of the largest in the region, Lezlie Pool, festival coordinator, said.

The festival is housed in three permanent buildings with over 100 additional tent exhibits outside on the resort property.

Pool said while the majority of the exhibitors are from Oklahoma, there will also be craftspeople from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas who will have their work on display.

Exhibitors from the Sequoyah County area include Betty Bonebrake, Julie Cotherman, JoAnn Tinning, Jeaneen Johnson, and Hazel Purkey, all of Gore, Roselina McCoy of Vian, Glen Johnson of Sallisaw, and Sandy Morgan and Jimmie Smith of Muldrow.

Pool said in addition to the array of handmade arts and crafts, food will also be available. Outside concessions will include kettle popped corn, turkey legs, funnel cakes, baked potatoes, roasted ears of corn, Bavarian roasted almonds, roasted peanuts, corndogs, and much more. The Fin and Feather buffet will also be open during the festival, Pool said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
