A Vian man faces a felony charge for allegedly distributing a controlled substance after selling cocaine to an undercover police officer.

Robert Lee Myers, 21, of Vian is charged with distribution of a controlled substance in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw. According to court records, he faces from to two years to life in prison and a fine up to $20,000.

According to court records, Vian Police Chief Mack White had Officer Terry Garland ride his motorcycle to an area in Vian where residents had complained that Myers and others were selling drugs.

"Since Officer Garland is not known in Vian at this time, I sent him to try to buy drugs from individuals in that area," Mack said in his report.

White supplied Garland with money to try to purchase drugs, and noted that the serial numbers on the bills were catalogued.

Garland reported to White that Myers allegedly told Garland that he did not have any drugs at that time, but told him to come back in about an hour.

An hour later, Garland returned to the same area and made a cocaine purchase from Myers. Garland returned to the police department with the drugs, which field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine, White reported.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
