Sallisaw City Commissioners will review for possible renewal contracts and agreements at their regular meeting Monday.

The commissioners will consider approval of the employment agreement with City Manager Bill Baker, and the renewal of the lease agreement between Baron's Air Service and the city. Baron Wylie operates the airport for the city under the lease agreement.

The commissioners will also consider approval of the Law Enforcement Agreement between the city and the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.

Bids for the 2006 asphalt overlay street improvement program will be opened and commissioners will consider approval of the runway overlay project at the municipal airport.

Wade Davis with the Bill Willis Mental Health Facility in Sallisaw has requested time to discuss community mental health awareness.

Acting as the Sallisaw Municipal Authority, the commissioners will also consider entering into an agreement with Hawkins-Weir Engineers of Van Buren, Ark., for a water study and report. The study was prompted by the drought through the winter and spring which left water levels at Brushy Lake, the city's only water supply, dangerously low, City Manager Bill Baker said. Baker said the study under consideration will look at all possible water-supply options.

The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the City Council Chambers at 1112 N. Elm St.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
