Jimmy Don Coatney, 29, was charged Friday in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw for the alleged assault. He is currently being held in the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on a $20,000 bond.
According to the affidavit, Sallisaw Police officers were dispatched to Kinsey Trailer Park on Aug. 30 on a call about an assault and battery.
Police found Coatney in the street picking up a black tool box and some tools. Coatney allegedly told police that he had beaten up Barry Ball. Coatney was covered in blood, and when asked if he was hurt he told police that the blood was Ball's blood.
Coatney allegedly told police that Ball stopped by to ask him about a bike and Coatney said that he hit Ball in the head with the tool case. He said when Ball was on the ground, he hit him with the case and kicked him in the head and chest.
Coatney told police that he would have killed him if people had not showed up.
Police spoke to Ball in the hospital and reported Ball confirmed everything Coatney said about the assault. Ball allegedly told police that he thought Coatney was going to kill him before men in a pickup truck stopped by and picked up Ball and dropped him off at the hospital.
