An Arkansas man is facing a child abuse charge stemming from an alleged incident in Muldrow earlier this month.

Barry Lyndon Needham, 46, of Chester, Ark., was charged Friday with the felony.

On July 8 a Sequoyah County Sheriff's deputy was dispatched to Muldrow about a domestic violence report. When Deputy Lance Yoakum arrived, he met with a woman who alleged that her husband, Needham, had just beaten her 14-year-old son.

The son was there and Yoakum reported that he could see the son had a ripped shirt.

The boy told police that Needham and his sister had an argument and the sister ran off. He said that Needham then came after him and grabbed him and threw him on the ground. The boy also said his father began pushing him.

The teen told police that he took off running and at that time his back was cut on a fence.

Yoakum went to the home where Needham was, and Needham allegedly told police that the incident did not happen.

He was arrested and taken to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
