Since 2004, Lucas James Blackbird, 21, has been charged in six separate felony cases, the first of which was a case in which he was charged with five counts of rape in connection with alleged sexual encounters with a girl under the age of 15 in early 2004.
While awaiting trial on the rape case and free on bond, Blackbird was arrested for the April 2005 robbery of Pat's Food Store, in which he used a knife to rob the store owner. After he was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, Blackbird went on to allegedly commit various other crimes, including larceny of an automobile and attempted larceny, burglary, and driving under the influence.
According to court records filed on May 25 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw, Blackbird pleaded no contest to 13 charges. Blackbird received five 15-year prison terms on the rape counts, a 20-year term for the robbery charge, three 20-year terms for three counts of larceny of an automobile, a 10-year term for attempted larceny of an automobile, a seven-year term for second-degree burglary, a five-year sentence for possession of a stolen vehicle, and one year in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol.
All of Blackbird's prison terms were ordered to run concurrently. The balance of his sentences are to be suspended upon successful completion of a therapeutic community drug program and the program "Thinking for a Change," or a similar one, according to court records.
