Sequoyah County will be well-represented in the week ahead as the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Games take place in the Oklahoma City metro area.

A dozen locals will be participating in the week-long event, which tees off on Monday morning with golf and wraps up Friday night with the All-State football game.

The top senior athletes from around the state will be showcased during the week and three Sequoyah County golfers will be involved in the first event. Sallisaw's Jacob Bartel and Vian's Nathan Harris are slated to play for the East boys and Sallisaw's Shelby Stavely is on the roster for the East girls in the All-State golf match. The golfers will begin at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Park West Golf Course in Oklahoma City.

The All-State baseball games will be played later on Monday with Central standouts Javier Santos and A.J. Gonzalez in the line-up for the Small East. The small school game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The large school game will be played at 7 p.m.

The All-State football game will feature three local players and a coach when it kicks off at 8 p.m. Friday at Mustang High School. Virgil Terry of Sallisaw will serve as head coach of the East squad, which has Muldrow receiver Beau Brannon, Sallisaw offensive lineman Matt Richardson and Sallisaw linebacker Clay Agent on its roster.

Three county girls will be participating throughout the week at several of the events. Sallisaw's Meghan Smith will serve as an athletic trainer for the East, while Vian's Kati Thornton and Chelsea Stewart are All-State cheerleaders and will cheer for the East at the basketball games on Wednesday and Thursday and the football game on Friday.

Another local standout, Grant Daffin of Sallisaw, was named All-State in wrestling but will not participate in Monday night's dual. The three-time state champion has already reported to Cornell University and is unable to attend. Another Sallisaw wrestler, Shane Flashner, is an alternate for the Small East team.
