GORE - The Sallisaw fastpitch softball team picked up a pair of wins on Monday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Gore.
The Lady Diamonds won the opener 6-2 and claimed the nightcap 4-3 while improving their record to 7-8 this season.
In the first game, Sallisaw built a 6-0 lead and then held off the Lady Pirates in the late innings to collect the win.
Erica Robertson, Ashley Covington and Amy Smith hit singles in the third inning and Sallisaw took a 2-0 lead when Lyndsey Daggs and Heather McCawley drew bases-loaded walks.
Covington drove in Shelby Morgan for a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Erin Cox belted a two-run double and Morgan added an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-0.
Gore plated one run in each of the final two innings, but could not complete a comeback. Kendra Smith and Macy Moseley had both of Gore's hits in the contest. Smith also had an RBI and Moseley scored a run for the Lady Pirates.
Amy Smith was the winning pitcher for Sallisaw, striking out eight batters, walking four and hitting one batter in seven innings of work.
Sallisaw took an early 4-0 lead in the second game of the doubleheader and had to weather a Gore really to get the win in five innings.
Daggs smacked a two-run double and Covington and Smith also had one RBI in the top of the first as the Lady Diamonds went in front 4-0.
The Lady Pirates pulled a run back in the bottom of the inning and tacked on two more in the fourth, but relief pitcher Daggs saved the win for starter Smith.
McCawley, Molly Hadley and Robertson also had hits for Sallisaw. Gore (5-10) was paced by Carolyn Roark and Kera Smith with one hit each.
Webbers Falls 9, Midway 1
WEBBERS FALLS - A five-run fifth inning paved the way for the Lady Warriors on Friday afternoon as they evened their record at 4-4 on the season.
Every girl in the line-up scored a run for Webbers Falls, which was paced offensively by Courtney Terrell and Britni Johnson.
Terrell batted 2-for-3, including an RBI single in the decisive fifth inning. Johnson also singled in a run during the inning.
Poteau 8, Sallisaw 1
POTEAU - The Lady Diamonds matched Poteau hit-for-hit on Friday afternoon, but couldn't keep up on the scoreboard.
Both teams collected eight hits in the game, but Sallisaw left eight runners stranded on base.
Two hits and a Sallisaw error loaded the bases for Poteau in the first inning and a solid base hit handed the Lady Pirates a quick 3-0 advantage. Two runs in the second and two more in the fourth made it 7-0.
Lyndsey Daggs drove in Sallisaw's run with a sacrifice after Erica Robertson had led off the sixth inning with a single.
Molly Hadley and Heather McCawley led Sallisaw with two hits apiece, while Ashley Covington, Amy Smith and Erin Cox had one hit each.
Webbers Falls 6, Haileyville 5
CANADIAN - Webbers Falls scored twice in the bottom of the last inning to snatch a close win away from Haileyville in a Thursday afternoon three-way.
The Lady Warriors trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the fifth, but Sarah Humphrey started a rally with a single and a stolen base. Ramie Toddy drove her in a with a single and proceeded to steal second and third base before scoring on an RBI single from Jessica Hayes.
The comeback gave the win to pitcher Lauren Martin, who struck out one and allowed three hits with three earned runs in five innings.
Humphrey was one of the offensive leaders for the Lady Warriors, batting 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Toddy also went 1-for-3, scored one run and stole two bases.
Haileyville went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning, but Webbers Falls eventually pulled even at 4-4 with a three runs in the bottom of the third. Haileyville went back in front in the fourth inning before the Lady Warriors' final rally.
Canadian 1, Webbers Falls 0
CANADIAN - The Lady Warriors stayed close with Canadian, but couldn't get any offense going and fell to 3-4 with the loss on Thursday.
"We played really good, probably the best we've played all year," said Webbers Falls coach Mark Weatherton. "Canadian is a good team and we stuck with them until the end."
Pitcher Lauren Martin tossed a one-hitter against Canadian, striking out four batters with just one walk. The lone run was unearned, coming in the third inning on an errant pick-off.
"Lauren pitched a great game," said Weatherton. "They got one single in the third inning. We tried to pick her off first and threw it down the right field line and that's how their run scored."
