Classes at Belfonte Public School will begin Aug. 16, Lucky McCrary, Belfonte Public School superintendent, said.

Pre-kindergarten and all school enrollments will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15.

The following is the calendar for the 2007-8 school year:

-Aug. 13 - Teachers report, professional development.

-Aug. 14 - Professional development day.

-Aug. 15 - Work day, staff only.

-Aug. 16 - First day of class.

-Sept. 3 - Labor day, no school.

-Oct. 18 and 19 - Fall break, no school.

-Oct.25 - Parent-teacher conference 4:30 to 8 p.m.

-Oct. 26 - Parent-teacher conference 8:30 a.m. to noon, no school.

-Oct. 31 - Halloween.

-Nov. 9 - End of first nine weeks.

-Nov. 11 - Veterans Day.

-Nov. 19 through 23 - Thanksgiving break, no school.

-Dec. 21 - End of second nine weeks.

-Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 - Christmas break, no school.

-Jan. 2 - School resumes.

-Feb. 18 - Snow day.

-March 7 - End of third nine weeks.

-March 17 through 21 - Spring break, no school.

-April 23 - Snow day.

-April 28 - Snow day.

-May 23 - End of second semester.

-May 23 - Last day for staff.

Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
