PORUM - The Panthers defeated Webbers Falls 50-0 last Friday night at Panther Field as Porum's experience helped the Class B team record the win in the season opener.

Porum had seven seniors on both sides of the ball, including quarterback Brandon Clayborn, who tossed touchdown passes of 5 and 11 yards to wide receiver Josh Tillery in the non-district victory. Clayborn is a four-year starter.

Running back Russell Locust was the game's leading rusher with 146 yards on seven carries, and his longest run was a 60-yarder.

Running back Justin Collins had a pair of touchdown runs (36 and 60 yards) in the contest, and he totaled 113 yards on six attempts.

One of the leaders for Porum's defense, which limited the Class C Warriors to minus four yards of total offense and negative 24 yards on the ground, was linebacker Bud Devin. His fumble recovery set up the Panthers' second TD and he also had two sacks.

"One of the things that was a big difference this year was our conditioning," Webbers Falls head coach Tom Butler said. "We were in a lot better shape than last year. The hard work paid off in that area. They (Porum) were a lot bigger, stronger and faster at every position."

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
