The first Lady Fair offers entertainment and information just for women from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at Go Ye Village's Richardson Hall, 1201 W. Fourth St. in Tahlequah.

Proceeds from Lady Fair will benefit Help-in-Crisis. The agency assists victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse in the Sallisaw area, and in Adair, Cherokee, Sequoyah, and Wagoner counties, Sue Agnew, event coordinator, said.

Agnew said over a dozen vendors will offer a variety of merchandise for sale including cosmetics, soaps, candles, gourmet foods, cosmetics, purses, clothing, and jewelry. Other vendors will provide vacation and travel ideas, alternatives to hormone replacement therapy, and spinal evaluations. Still others will demonstrate the use of rubber stamps and offer fitness opportunities.

Free manicures will be provided by students from Tahlequah's Beauty Technical College, Agnew said. Students from the Northeastern Oklahoma School of Massage and Healing Arts will give 10-minute massages to event visitors for a $5 contribution to Help-in-Crisis. A silent auction featuring dozens of gift baskets is planned for Lady Fair, and door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

Agnew said seminar presenters will discuss accessorizing, massage therapy, home decoration, fitness and weight loss, how to look your best, and how women handle stress. Six musical groups will provide instrumental background music during the day. A light lunch of croissant sandwich, beverage, and dessert will be prepared and served by the culinary students at Talking Leaves Job Corps Center for a $5 donation to Help-in-Crisis.

Tickets for Lady Fair may be purchased at the door for $5, and advance tickets are available at the Help-in-Crisis office at 205 N. College in Tahlequah. A limited number of tickets for the light lunch are also $5 each.

Agnew said, "Lady Fair is a time for women to pamper themselves and enjoy a ladies' day out. Plan to invite friends and spend a fun Saturday at Lady Fair while supporting Help-in-Crisis."

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
