A Roland teen was in intensive care over the weekend and remains hospitalized after he was beaten by a group of five or six teens.

Roland Police Chief Tommy Sessums said the incident occurred at a Roland home between midnight and 12:30 a.m. early Saturday. He said police received a 911 call and arrived at the home to find a 17-year-old victim unconscious.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital, and he was in intensive care all weekend, Sessums said. He did not know the extent of the teen's injuries, but believed the boy suffered broken bones.

"They beat this boy up pretty bad," Sessums said, noting that the victim's name is not being released because he is a juvenile. The teen is now believed to be in stable condition.

Sessums said it is believed that the teen was beaten by a group of five or six teens, who are also thought to be juveniles.

"It's still under investigation," he said, adding police are still interviewing suspects and witnesses.

Since the investigation began, Sessums said police have heard many different stories about the incident. He did not elaborate on those stories.

"We are looking to file charges," he said.

No one was taken into custody at the time of the incident. Sessums said he doesn't believe any suspects were still at the scene when police arrived.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
