Webbers Falls will play Bokoshe in a varsity high school football game for the first time Friday night when the Warriors meet the Tigers at Smokey Cox Field.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

This year's contest is a non-district game, but in 2006 both teams will be members of District C-4.

Bokoshe is 0-2 for the season after the Tigers dropped a 64-14 decision to Kiefer last week.

Cave Springs junior varsity beat Bokoshe 22-6 in the Tigers' season opener. Jeremy Southerland scored the Tigers only touchdown on a 79-yard kickoff return. Another key player for the Tigers is freshman quarterback Steven Monroe.

"I just know they have some good size," Webbers Falls head coach Tom Butler said when asked about the Tigers. "They're big up front. Against Kiefer they ran a 3-3 on defense and showed some five and six-man front. They have a good linebacker and he likes to blitz, so we have to be aware of him. Their starting tailback was out last week, and a freshman scored a couple of touchdowns. He is a quick kid.

"On offense they'll mainly run double-tight with split backs and some I-formation. They like to keep it between the tackles and run boot with their quarterback.

"A key for our defense is flying around the football. Coach (Sean) Dandridge does a good job with our defense, and he'll give them different looks. We started playing better defense against South Coffeyville, and we're hitting well and flying to the ball. Hopefully we can keep improving this week."

Linebacker Cory Mickles of the Warriors had 15 tackles in last week's 56-6 win over Arkoma, and defensive end Tyler Wooten recorded seven sacks. Derek Dandridge returned a fumble 38 yards for a touchdown in the contest.

"The continued improvement of our offensive line is a key for our offense," said Butler. "We have to stay with our blocks so we can drive the ball. We're starting to gel a little bit. We'll also work on our passing game this week. (Quarterback) Howard Zachary is young, but he's capable of doing some good things."

Dandridge rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns (3, 3, 35 and 20 yards) and returned a punt 35 yards for another TD for Webbers Falls last week. Mickles ran for 108 yards and added two touchdowns (34 and 58 yards) on the ground.

Webbers Falls is 1-2 overall for the season and 1-1 in District C-4 play.
