Tracy said firefighters were called to a house fire at about 2:30 p.m. July 9. They found the porch of a two-story A-frame house, which belongs to Curtis Davis, on fire and a pickup truck in flames.
Tracy reported the house is about two and a half miles north of Gore on State Highway 100. "We estimate the house and vehicle suffered about $10,000 in damage," Tracy said. "The damage to the home was mostly to the porch, but the interior had smoke and water damage."
Tracy said apparently Davis was burning a small brush pile when he went into the house for lunch and left the fire unattended. The fire quickly spread due to the dry conditions at the time.
Tracy said four pumper trucks and 20 firefighters responded to the fire.
A grass fire was also extinguished by firefighters at about 5 p.m. July 8 near Summers Ferry.
Tracy warned residents that, even though the county has received rain since last weekend, the predicted high temperatures will quickly dry out grass and ground cover. "Leaving fires can be very dangerous," Tracy said. "Those planning to burn should stay with the fire to keep it contained."
