According to police reports, the vehicles were reportedly vandalized late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. All told, the vandals caused about $2,560 in damage, police reports indicated.
Five of the vehicles were parked at an apartment complex on South Wheeler, while the others were parked in the driveways of residents' homes and duplexes on surrounding streets, as well as at the school.
Sallisaw Police Officer Wendel Hughes, who responded to the vandalism calls, said Thursday that the case is still under investigation.
The vehicles were discovered at 6 a.m. Wednesday when a Sallisaw man, living at Lessley's Apartments at 700 S. Wheeler, was leaving for work and found that six tires on three of his vehicles had been slashed, totaling $700 in damage. Hughes reported that after looking at the first victim's slashed tires, he noticed other vehicles' tires in the parking area were also slashed, which prompted Hughes to begin contacting the owners.
Two other vehicles in the apartment complex parking lot were vandalized. One of the victims reported seeing a young man sleeping in the parking lot, who was driving a white car with green fenders.
Vehicles parked in driveways of two homes on Watts Street were also vandalized, including a motorcycle that had been pushed over. The motorcycle's windshield broke during the fall, and one of the bike's tires was flat.
Other vandalized vehicles were parked at homes on the 700 block of East Lucy Street and on the 400 block of South Pecan Street.
During the incident at Liberty School, the victim reported that she was leaving the school at about 10 p.m. Tuesday when she noticed her tire was flat. When the victim's sister, who also had her car at the school, came to pick her up, her car tire also went down about three blocks down the road.
Those with any information about the vandalism are urged to call the police dispatch at (918) 775-4142.
