Vandals cut furniture and ransacked a home in Sallisaw Monday, causing $3,000 in damage to household furniture and structural damage to the house, police reported.

According to a Sallisaaw police report, the break-in occurred between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of Kody Lane.

At 12:50 p.m. Monday Officer Tucker Martens and Lt. John Owens were dispatched to the home after a report was made that a home's doors had been kicked in and property damaged.

The homeowner told police he already looked in the home and saw no one in the home and couldn't see anything missing. Tucker reported that the house was in disarray, including the child's bedroom. All the furniture had large cuts in them and there was damage to the drywall. All the kitchen cabinets were also open. The owner told police there was a small safe that had been tampered with.

Three latent fingerprints were lifted off the safe, along with one fingerprint from the trim around the safe. All were submitted to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for analysis.

Owens and Martens patrolled the area earlier that day around 11 a.m. and noticed nothing irregular, Martens reported. A person who was walking in the area at that same time told police he heard what might have been yelling coming from behind the home.

There are currently no suspects or witnesses in the case, police reported.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
