A rally for State Question 712, which will allow electronic gaming at three of the state's racetracks, will be held Saturday at Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw.

The state question is on the Nov. 2 general election ballot, and the Choctaw Nation, which owns Blue Ribbon Downs, and horsemen who race at the Sallisaw racetrack, are seeking support of the state question.

Gates at the racetrack will open at 9 a.m.

The track will offer 50-cent hot dogs; free T-shirts; free pony rides at 11 a.m.; a bass-fishing clinic with Mark Goines; free fishing for children in the trout pond; and a display of the 7 UP bass boat.

Fans will also be able to guess the number of bottles of Coke products in a bed and win all the products.

The first post time is at noon, and Saturday's live racing will feature the Black Gold Championship, the Black Gold Derby and the Four Seasons Handicap.

The track will also feature the simulcast of the Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships from Lone Star Park in Arlington, Texas.

The first post time from Lone Star Park is at 11:40 a.m. and the Breeders Cup races begin at 12:20 p.m. The Breeders Cup will feature an Ultra Pick 6 with a $3 million guaranteed pool.

Blue Ribbon Downs will also hold live racing on Friday. Saturday's racing is the conclusion of the racetrack's fall race meet. There will be no live racing on Sunday.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
