The seat for State Rep. District No. 15, which encompasses portions of Sequoyah County, has two contenders in the race.

State Rep. Ray Miller, incumbent Democrat, and his opponent, Jeff Phillips, Republican, will face off on Tuesday.

The polling precincts in Sequoyah County for that election include 201, 203, 209, 210, 211, and 212.

Miller said he grew up on his family's farm in western Haskell County near Enterprise.

Miller graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

Miller said he worked in Oklahoma's public school system for over 27 years as a teacher and administrator. To supplement the family income, Miller worked on the family farm and built homes.

He has served in District 15 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives since 2000.

Miller is a member various House committees, and has authored or co-authored 309 bills and resolutions, 220 of which have been passed into law.

As of press time Friday, Phillips had not returned his biographical information to Your TIMES.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
