Muldrow police arrested an 18-year-old Muldrow area man Monday in connection with the burglary of a local business, which was struck twice in two weeks by burglars.
Carl Eugene Porter was arrested Monday afternoon on a felony arrest warrant for the second-degree burglary of Pat's Food Store and for knowingly concealing stolen property, Muldrow Police Investigator Tim Keith said Tuesday.
Porter's arrest came days after another Muldrow business was the target of burglars in the early morning hours Saturday. Keith said the suspect or suspects entered Sonic Drive-In through a broken window and stole a large amount of cash.
Keith did not reveal the amount of money stolen or other details of the case because he said "facts are still coming in."
While the teen is the only suspect who has been arrested so far in the Pat's Food Store investigation, he may not be the only arrest in the case, Keith said. He said that police are waiting for an arrest warrant for another suspect, and he also said that several juveniles may have been involved.
When questioned whether the Sonic burglary was connected to the burglaries at Pat's Food Store, Keith said if he had to speculate, he believed one or more players may have had a part in both of the business burglaries.
"The investigation is still ongoing," Keith noted.
Keith said Tuesday that Porter was being held in the Muldrow City Jail, but expected that Porter would be transported to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw.
Muldrow Police Chief Tony Lewis said last week that Pat's Food Store, which is located on the corner of U.S. Highway 64 and Fargo, was targeted by burglars July 12 and July 23. During the first burglary, a male entered the store through the front by breaking the glass and stole cigarettes before leaving the scene.
During the July 23 burglary, two males broke into the store the same way as the July 12 incident, and stole between $600 and $700 in merchandise, including beer and tobacco products.
In both instances, video surveillance caught the masked burglars on tape.
