A Bunch man was sentenced to five years in prison for probation violations, including failing to register as a sex offender, Sequoyah County District Attorney Jerry S. Moore announced Tuesday.

Moore said that Bartie Stealer of Bunch had been on probation for molesting a 5-year-old girl in 2000. Stealer pleaded guilty on March 14, 2005, and was placed on supervised probation. On June 26, an application to revoke Stealer's probation was filed for failing to register as a sex offender as required and failing to report to his probation officer.

"Sex offenders will be given no leeway when they violate their probation," Kyle Waters, assistant district attorney who handled the case, noted.
