Members of the Blackgum Harvestime Church will hold their annual fall festival from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29.

Friday and Saturday activities will include a yard sale, bake sale, Indian tacos, barbecue plate with all the fixings, hamburgers, hot dogs, chili pies, deep dish chocolate chip cookies, root beer floats and more.

Also on Saturday the festival will feature an outdoor gospel singing beginning at 10 a.m. Groups expected to perform are Seasoned Word, New Creation and various Blackgum Harvestime Church singers and musicians.

An action at 2 p.m. on Saturday will include items donated by area merchants such as themed gift baskets made by the ladies of the church. The baskets make great Christmas gifts, the ladies said. The highlight of the auction will be pies and cakes also made by the ladies of the church.

Games and prizes for children will also be held on Saturday.

The church is six miles north of Vian on State Highway 82. Proceeds from the festival will go to the church building fund.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
