Jerry Hay, 24, of Muldrow was charged with speeding, driving under suspension, endeavoring to manufacture a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of CDS within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of precursor red phosphorous, possession of precursor pseudoephedrine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hay is currently being held in the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on a $56,000 bond.
Sallisaw Police Chief Gary Philpot said Officer Houston Murray stopped a maroon Ford pickup for traveling 40 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone on J.T. Stites Boulevard Wednesday. Hay pulled over on Ruth Street on Sallisaw High School property, and Murray ran a driver's license check that showed Hay's license was suspended.
Murray arrested Hay for driving under suspension. During an inventory of the truck, Murray and Officer Justin Smithson found a trash sack in the bed of the truck that contained items commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Both officers observed that some of the contents of the trash sack were smoking, Philpot said.
Detectives John Owens and Jeff Murray were called to the scene to investigate and confirmed the items found were consistent with the manufacture of meth. The detectives processed the suspected clandestine methamphetamine laboratory with the assistance of Sequoyah County Deputies Chris Grizzle and Frank Loyd.
