Superintendent Lawrence Barnes said Tuesday that the board will declare the vacancy later at a special meeting. Thornton, who was on the school board for about 10 years, was the school board president when he died, and his post was up for election in February.
Barnes said the board approved an agreement to participate in the Oklahoma Joint Management Program, a program that allows the school to join with other schools to buy natural gas in bulk and save about 15 percent.
Barnes said the board accepted the resignation of Karen Baker, child nutrition program cook, and hired Dana Troutman to replace her. The board also approved the school's continued participation in the Oklahoma Public Schools Unemployment Compensation account, and the payroll and encumbrances.
