BUNCH - Gans scored six unanswered touchdowns Friday night at Hornet Field as the Grizzlies opened District B-4 play with a 52-12 victory over Cave Springs.

Tailback Cody Johnson gave the visiting Grizzlies an early lead with his 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but the conversion run was no good.

The Hornets tied the score later in the period when Justin Holmes completed a 52-yard TD pass to Cody Cooksey, and Cave Springs' conversion was also unsuccessful.

Gans broke the deadlock when tailback Brailey Couffer rushed for a 6-yard TD, and the Grizzlies led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Grizzlies padded the advantage in the second stanza with touchdown runs of 1 and 15 yards by quarterback Joe Brunk. Couffer ran for the conversion after the second TD and Gans led 26-6 at the intermission.

Gans added two touchdowns in the third quarter. Brunk tossed a 12-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Clint Holmes for the first points of the period for the Grizzlies before Couffer returned an interception 48 yards for another TD. Brunk rushed for the conversion after the second touchdown.

Devin Six of the Hornets crossed the goal line after a 3-yard run for Cave Springs' final points of the contest in the fourth stanza.

A 61-yard touchdown run by tailback Taylor Victory ended Gans' scoring.

After Friday's contest, Gans is 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the district and the Hornets are 0-2 and 0-1.
