Lacey Wells, a 13-year-old middle school student from Sallisaw, is recovering from an injury and infection in her left eye, which is causing her family financial stress.

An account has been set up for the family at Armstrong Bank and donations may be made to the account at any Armstrong Bank or branch.

Wells is the daughter of Jason and Debra Ackerman and the late Joseph Wells. She is the granddaughter of Louis and Kathy Wells and Delmar and Ann Jackson, all of Vian, Doris Wright of Spiro and Jim and Libby Ackerman of Gore.

Louis Wells said his granddaughter received a slight injury to the cornea in her left eye last month, and developed a fungus in the cornea that caused her to lose her eyesight. She has been treated at Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City since. Doctors there recently diagnosed the fungus, which is only the second time this fungus - trichostoron - has been found in the United States, Wells said.

"Lacey has received on cornea transplant but due to the rare fungus she may have to have a second transplant," Wells said. "Her parents have had a tremendous amount of out-of-pocket expense for travel, motels, prescriptions, loss of wages, etc. We all would deeply appreciate any help possible."

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
