Winners in the Sallisaw Christmas Parade on Saturday will be announced after the parade at the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce at the corner of Wheeler and Cherokee Street.

Judy Martens, chamber executive vice president, said the parade begins at about 5:30 p.m. and the winners will be announced at about 8 p.m. after judges make their decisions.

As of Tuesday, Martens said the parade had 38 entries, most of which were floats.

First, second and third place awards will be presented in three categories - business, non-profit organizations and schools. First-place winners will receive $200; second-place winners will receive $100 or a pizza party at Simple Simon's Pizza; and third-place winners will receive a hayride, campfire and S'mores party at Dwight Mission.

Martens said the Santa's Workshop, which will be held after the parade at the chamber, will be limited to the first 200 children. More children will be allowed to enter the workshop as others leave, Martens explained. The workshop is free.

At Santa's Workshop booths will be set up for arts and crafts, such as Make-N-Take Ornaments, some booths will offer games and goody bags, and Santa will be available for photos which the children may have free.

Mary Lynn and Larry Lufkin will also offer free pony rides behind the chamber in the 14 Flags Museum Complex area.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
