Roland will visit George Coffman Field for the first time since 1992 Friday night when the Rangers journey to Idabel in the District 3A-4 opener for both teams.

Kickoff at Warrior Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Idabel enters Friday's contest with an 0-3 record, but two of those losses (Broken Bow and Poteau) were to Class 4A schools. McCurtain County rival Broken Bow edged the Warriors 13-6 in the season opener and the following week Poteau defeated Idabel 21-0. The Warriors' other loss came last Friday against DeQueen, Ark. (33-6).

Sallisaw High School graduate Joe Jones is the head coach of the Warriors, and some of his key offensive players are linemen Cedrick Robbins (5-foot-9, 280-pound junior) and Kyle Gray (6-4, 200, senior), tight end ShaJuan Roberts (6-3, 210, senior) and quarterback T.J. Broades (5-11, 180).

Defensive standouts for the Warriors include Roberts and Daniel Pond (5-11, 180, senior) at the defensive end positions, defensive lineman Cody Johnson (5-11, 215, junior), linebacker Mack Dixon (5-11, 175, senior) and defensive back Montrice Torres (5-10, 160, senior).

Roland enters league play with a non-district record of 2-1. The Rangers blanked Spiro 21-0 last week.

Idabel stopped the Rangers 28-13 in their last meeting 16 years ago, and the previous season the Warriors prevailed 34-15.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
