A Tahlequah man and a Fort Smith, Ark., teen were killed in separate accidents in Sequoyah County over the weekend.

About 11:25 a.m. Friday Kenneth Peachey, 59, of Tahlequah was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle nine and a half miles north of Vian on State Highway 82 when the accident occurred, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP). Peachey was traveling south when the motorcycle when off the right side of the road on a curve and rolled, throwing Peachey and a passenger from the motorcycle.

Peachey was flown to Saint Francis Medical Center in Tulsa, where he died at 1:40 p.m. from head injuries he sustained in the crash, the OHP reported.

Carolyn Sue Long, 65, of Tahlequah, who was a passenger on Peachey's motorcycle, was taken by ambulance to Tahlequah City Hospital, where she was admitted in good condition for observation only.

The cause of the collision was listed as unsafe speed on a curve or turn. Neither Peachey nor Long were wearing helmets, the OHP reported.

FORT SMITH GIRL KILLED

The OHP investigated a second fatality accident Saturday.

The OHP reported that Frederick J. Galyen, 17, of Fort Smith, Ark., was traveling on a county road about two miles northeast of Roland when the accident occurred at about 9:38 p.m.

Galyen was reported driving a 2003 Ford Ranger at a high rate of speed when the vehicle went over a bridge. According to the OHP, Galyen lost control of the vehicle, which went into a broad slide, causing the truck to overturn one and three-quarter times.

Falisha McDonald of Fort Smith, Ark., who was a passenger in Galyen's vehicle, was thrown from the truck. McDonald was taken by ambulance to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, where she was pronounced dead at about 10:15 p.m. from internal injuries.

Galyen was not injured in the accident. Another passenger in his vehicle, Lacy M. Castner, 22, of Fort Smith was taken by ambulance to Sparks Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for leg, arm and internal injuries and released, according to the OHP.

The OHP reported that the cause of the accident was unsafe speed for the type of roadway.

INJURY ACCIDENT

In an accident at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday a Muldrow woman and an Arkansas woman were injured.

According to the OHP, Linda Ruth Adams, 45, of Muldrow was operating a 1993 Polaris four-wheel all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a county road four miles northwest of Muldrow when the accident occurred.

Adams was traveling west when she failed to negotiate a curve, causing the ATV to overturn. Adams and a passenger, Tammy Lynn Sammons, were thrown about 10 feet from the ATV, the OHP reported.

Both Adams and Sammons were taken by ambulance to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. Sammons, 40, of Burg, Ark., was treated for internal injuries and released. Adams was later flown to St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, where she was admitted in stable condition with internal injuries.

The OHP reported there was an odor of alcohol present on Adams. Neither woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
