A $250,000 bond was set for a Muldrow woman charged with felony child abuse at a bond hearing Wednesday in Sequoyah County District Court, according to the prosecution.

The prosecution asked for a $500,000 bond.

Misty VanZandt, 26, allegedly refused visitation rights to her ex-husband, Tregg VanZandt of Muldrow, after a divorce two years ago. Tregg VanZandt was granted visitation every other weekend, but after each weekend visitation, Misty VanZandt claimed their daughter had been sexually abused, according to court records.

Misty VanZandt was apprehended in Texas in October on a warrant from Oklahoma. She waived extradition and was being held on no bond until Wednesday. Assistant District Attorney Jeff Sheridan said in early November that she was being held without bail because she had not revealed the location of her daughter, who remains missing.

VanZandt's attorney, Stephanie A. Marston of Oklahoma City, alleged her client was being held illegally after a $10,000 bond had first been posted, but later changed to no bond by a judge's order via telephone.

Misty VanZandt allegedly took the child on repeated visits to the doctor for alleged sexual abuse despite no evidence to verify the claim, according to court records.

Sheridan argued last month that VanZandt was a flight risk because she had not surrendered her daughter into DHS custody.
