Jessica Brown, OSBI spokeswoman, said Darla Lovern Caughman, 62, who lived north of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59, was found stabbed to death at about 8 a.m. Saturday.
Brown said that since the investigation has just begun, she could not release many details.
Brown said that Mrs. Caughman was found by a home health care worker. Friends said Mrs. Caughman took care of her disabled son at home, with the assistance of home health care.
Mrs. Caughman's body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy, and the OSBI was waiting on reports on Monday. It appeared that Mrs. Caughman was stabbed to death, but Brown said she could not release the manner of stabbing, or if Mrs. Caughman was stabbed once or multiple times.
Brown said OSBI agents were still collecting evidence at the scene and sending it to the OSBI lab in Edmond, and conducting interviews.
Mrs. Caughman's funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Way of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church in Sallisaw. Burial will be Akins Cemetery, under direction of Agent Funeral Home.
