Sallisaw Hoopsters Post Wins At Connors Tourney

WARNER - The Sallisaw boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 51-34 win over Stigler Thursday night at the Connors Invitational.

The victory clinched first place for the Diamonds in pool play of the large school bracket and advanced them to Saturday's championship game.

To get there, Sallisaw rallied from a two-point halftime deficit by controlling the second half. A 13-6 run in the third quarter put Sallisaw ahead and the Diamonds pulled away from Stigler by scoring 24 points in the fourth period.

Senior Dan McHenry paced Sallisaw with a game-high 14 points. Trent Whitekiller added nine, Dustin Edgmon eight, Mitch Lockhart five, Jacob Blount five, Cory Jobe 4, Trevor Teel two and Corey Ledford two.

Stigler (0-5) was led by 10 points from Brad Morris and nine from Jimmy Wilkett.

The two teams will meet again on Monday night when the Diamonds host Stigler in their home-opener.

Sallisaw 42, Eufaula 31 (Girls)

WARNER - The Lady Diamonds rebounded from an opening round at the Connors tourney by thumping Eufaula on Wednesday.

Senior Whitney Hall poured in a game-high 14 points to lead the way for Sallisaw (1-1). Molly Hadley netted seven points, Heather McCawley six, Morgan Thomason five, LaShawna Fields five and Kelli Branham five.

Eufaula, which slipped to 0-3, was paced by Laryl Arnold's seven points.
