A head-on collision five and a half miles north of Sallisaw Saturday night sent two local residents to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

The OHP reported that Euin Richards, 66, of Sallisaw was driving a 1993 two-door Chrysler south on U.S. Highway 59 at about 8:40 p.m. when he went left of center and struck a northbound vehicle head on.

The OHP reported that Richards' ability was impaired due to drinking. Richards, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was admitted to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital. He was listed in stable condition with head and internal trunk injuries.

The northbound vehicle, a 1992 GMC truck, was driven by Don Buster, 33, of Marble City. Buster was not injured.

The OHP reported that of the three passengers in Buster's vehicle, only one was injured.

Alberto Ramirez, 14, of Sallisaw and Donovan Buster, 5, of Marble City, were not injured, while Leslille Buster, 61 also of Marble City, was treated and released from Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. All four were wearing their seatbelts, according to the OHP.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
