The staff at Sallisaw High School invites all parents and students in Sequoyah County high schools as well as eighth graders and their parents from Brushy, Marble City, and Tommie Spear Middle Schools to the annual Career and College Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 8 in the commons at Sallisaw High School.

Career and armed services representatives and college and university representatives will be available to speak with all participants.

Students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of college, career and occupational possibilities. Business leaders in the community will be available to interact with students and answer questions regarding job skills, responsibilities, pay, and working conditions. They will have handouts, informative brochures, and visual aides detailing the occupation. Students are particularly interested in hands-on exploration such as trying on safety gear, working with tools or equipment, etc.

In addition, a presentation on Making College Financial Planning Count will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. The presentation will cover:

*How to plan for and manage college costs

*Strategies to help prepare the student and student's family for the student's next educational steps

*Ways to navigate the college financial aid process

The presentation is offered at no cost thanks to Making It Count.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
