ROLAND - Evidently, four quarters just aren't enough for the Roland Rangers.
For the second-straight week, the Rangers won in overtime as Travon Hudson's touchdown catch lifted them to a 6-3 double overtime victory over Bristow on Friday night.
Playing in front of a homecoming crowd at Ranger Stadium, the teams battled through a scoreless 48 minutes. Neither team was able to score in the first extra period, but Bristow finally got on the scoreboard with a 21-yard field goal to start the second overtime session.
Roland netted six yards in three plays on its possession, setting up a fourth-and-goal from the Bristow four. Quarterback Drew Roberts passed to Hudson, who made a diving catch in the end zone to lift the Rangers to the victory.
Roland is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in District 3A-4. Bristow dropped to 0-4 and 0-1. Roland will play at Victory Christian on Friday night.
Broken Bow 7, Sallisaw 0
The Black Diamonds came up just short on Friday night as Broken Bow made a goal-line stand in the final minute to preserve a 7-0 victory in the District 4A-4 opener at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium in Sallisaw.
The only score in a hard-hitting defensive struggle came in the third quarter when Mitchell Bailey broke loose for a touchdown run to put the Savages up 7-0.
Sallisaw put together a promising drive late in the game with the running of Ryon Mefford, who was subbing for the injured Kyle Stewart. On fourth-and-goal from the Broken Bow three, Sallisaw was stopped at the one-yard line and the Savages took over with 22 seconds left.
Sallisaw dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the league, while Broken Bow ran its record to 3-1 and 1-0. Next up for Sallisaw is a Friday night trip to Stilwell.
