IDABEL - Roland recorded its third-straight win of the season Friday night at George Coffman Field as the Rangers scored two second-half touchdowns to defeat the Warriors 14-6.

The Rangers improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league with the District 3A-4 victory, and Idabel dropped to 0-4 and 0-1.

The Warriors moved from their 48 to the Roland 17 in the second period, but the Rangers' defense held on fourth-and-2 to end the scoring threat.

The halftime score was 0-0.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard first in the third period when quarterback Drew Roberts completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Cory Freeman, and Jeff Roberts kicked the extra point with 2:39 left in the stanza. The one-play scoring drive was set up by a fumble recovery by Drew Roberts.

The Warriors returned the ensuing kickoff to the Roland 20, and on the first play from scrimmage running back Mack Dixon ran for a 20-yard touchdown. Idabel's point-after kick was no good, and the Rangers kept their one-point advantage.

Early in the final quarter Roland started its second touchdown drive of the night. After a 12-yard Idabel punt, the Rangers moved from the Warriors' 48 to their 24 before tailback Teven Thompson ran into the end zone with 8:41 remaining in the contest. Prior to the touchdown, another Thompson run of 24 yards had moved the Rangers to the Idabel 20, and the junior scored on third-and-14.

The Warriors had two other offensive opportunities, but Roland's defense stiffened on both occasions.

Thompson was the game's leading rusher with 172 yards on 19 carries, and Dixon finished with 166 yards on 31 attempts.

Drew Roberts completed 4-of-11 passes for 55 yards, and his counterpart, Collin Dennington, was 8-of-15 for 49 yards.

Fullback Alex Cole was the top receiver for the Rangers with three receptions for 29 yards, and Freeman caught one pass. Running back Kendrick Butler of the Warriors had five catches for 38 yards.

Dustin Finney paced the Ranger defense with 14 tackles and a sack.

These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
