A meeting for those with loved ones buried at Drakestand Cemetery will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the community building at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds, at the corner of Shurley and Redwood Street in Sallisaw. All those with family and friends of those buried at the cemetery are urged to attend.

The Spanish Mission Church of Sallisaw - Iglesia Bautista: El Buen Pastor de Sallisaw - at 100 Creek will celebrate the church's first anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Spanish Mission is also offering English as a Second Language classes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday. Members of the Red Bud Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday at Western Sizzlin restaurant in Sallisaw. Freda Cook and Flossie Jones will be the hostesses.

Second Chance Outreach Ministries Inc., a faith-based alcohol and drug recovery program, will hold an open house from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the facility. Those planning to attend are advised to take State Highway 82 north from Vian to State Highway 100, turn right, and go one-half mile to Evening Shade Road. Continue past the Tenkiller Golf Course, go down the hill and take the next left to Sequoyah Estates. Arrows will point the way to the open house.

Minerva Roberts of Sallisaw will be the guest speaker at a women's meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the New Life Christian Outreach at the corner of Treat and Caddo Streets in Muldrow. Men are also welcome to attend. For information call (918) 427-3187.

Free adult education and literacy classes are being offered in Sallisaw to help those preparing for the General Educational Development test and to improve job skills. A Cherokee Nation Cultural Resource Centers Cherokee Language Class will meet for 10 weeks, from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday, beginning Oct. 1, at the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization Activity Center on Birch Street. Kim Glass will testify about overcoming drug addiction and serving the Lord at a Women's Ministry Rally that will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lighthouse Tabernacle, at the corner of 9th and Campbell Streets in Gore. A local input meeting for the Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community building at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. This is one of 42 local input meetings planned through the state. Comments at these meetings will be sent to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for consideration in the update of the Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan. Brushy Elementary School will hold the annual Fall Carnival Friday, Oct. 5, at the school. The coronation of the yearbook royalty will kick off the event at 6 p.m. and the carnival games will open at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from the carnival will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for students.

Members of the Tenkiller Area Community Organization (TACO) will hold their annual Fall Flea Market on Friday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 6, at the TACO Building and Grounds on Mullens Drive, next to the airport, in Cookson. The staff at Sequoyah Manor Nursing Home in Sallisaw will be selling Indian tacos and a drinks for $5 Saturday, Oct. 6, at Muldrow's Old Settlers Day. The sale will be to raise funds for the nursing home residents' Christmas.

The Akins Reunion will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Akins Baptist Church, just south of the corner. Lunch will be served from noon until 1 p.m. and those planning to attend are asked to bring a covered dish. Plates, cups, utensils and drinks will be furnished. A 10-piece country band plays at 7 p.m. every Saturday at the Gans Country Music Hall on State Highway 141 just south of U.S. Highway 64. Admission is free and no smoking or alcohol is allowed.

An Oklahoma Centennial Music Show will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Vian School Auditorium. Admission is $5 per person and $3 per child age 12 and under. The Canterbury Chapel United Methodist Church Missions Committee is sponsoring the fundraiser to provide mosquito netting for African families to protect them from malaria.

Members of the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization (MCCO) will have a booth at Muldrow's Old Settlers Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. MCCO members will display Cherokee culture and have Cherokee activities throughout the day, along will children's games and a silent auction. The silent auction will help fund a community center.

An all-you-can-eat benefit breakfast will be held from 7 until 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Masonic Lodge No. 120, across from Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. The event will benefit 3-year-old cancer patient Luke Lewallen. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee, juice and milk for $4 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.

Dwight Mission alumni, family and friends will meet from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Dwight Mission dining room. Lunch will be served at noon and will cost $6.75. A benefit gospel singing, to help pay for the various medical expenses of Carolyn Byers of Muldrow, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Belfonte Church. The event will be hosted by Lorene Taylor and family and Sam Dougherty will be singing. A steak dinner will be served at 6 p.m. for a cost of $5. The meal includes a dessert and drink. Other foods will also be available for sale.

The Marble City Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, and will include garage sales, a flea market, crafts and foods, a gospel music performance at 11 a.m. and country music at 6 p.m.

Members of the House of Praise in Marble City will hold a 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament during the Marble City Fall Festival as a fundraiser for the church. The entry fee is $40 per four-player team, and first-place T-shirts will be given to the first-place winners in each age division. Come See a Man Ministry will present the 2007 Empowerment Conference, "Destiny's Calling for Kingdom Dynamics," at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Gore's fall clean up will be held from Friday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 14. A list of items which will be accepted and which will not be accepted will be posted at the Gore Municipal Building and other Gore locations. The drop-off site is at the intersection of State Highway 100 and U.S. Highway 64 in Gore.

The 14th annual Sequoyah Memorial Hospice Run/Walk will be held Oct. 13 in Sallisaw. The run features a 5K run and 2K fun walk. Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. on the day of the race. The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m., and the 2K fun walk will begin at 9:10 a.m. The $10 entry fee includes a hospice run T-shirt. Registration on the day of the race is $12. All children's tickets will be $4. The meal, cooked in the park, will include hog meat, barbeque beans, fry bread, grape dumplings and a soft drink. Native American music will be played, a horseshoe pitch will be held, and a stomp dance will be demonstrated by the Kenwood Group. Door prizes will also be given away.
