Sallisaw rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to knock off the No. 2-ranked Glenpool Warriors, 24-20, on Friday night at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
Glenpool took a 20-9 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Sallisaw tailback Bubba Philpot answered with a 91-yard touchdown run on the first play after the Warriors kicked off. The Diamonds eventually took the lead on a short touchdown run by Kyle Stewart and held on to prevail in their season-opener.
The Black Diamonds will host Miami on Friday night.
Roland 53, Stilwell 23
ROLAND - Chase Quickel tossed a pair of touchdown passes and Ben Fowlkes ran for another two scores as the Rangers opened their 2006 season with a win over visiting Stilwell.
Quickel connected with Colton Daniel for a 56-yard TD strike in the first quarter and later passed 33 yards to Ricky Acosta. Fowlkes added touchdown runs of 21 and 71 yards for the Rangers.
Roland will be on the road next Friday, when the Rangers travel to Westville for another non-district game.
Gans 44, Arkoma 14 GANS - Quuarterback Nick Woodruff ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Grizzlies past Arkoma in a non-district game Friday night.
Gans won its season-opener by cruising to a 30-0 lead by halftime. Nick Gard ran for two touchdowns, Kyle John scored another and Cameron Pastore caught a TD pass in the victory.
Gans plays at Porter next Friday.
Vian 48, Seeworth Academy 0 VIAN - The Wolverines romped to a blowout win in their season-opener against Seeworth Academy.
Vian will host Keys next Friday in another non-district game.
Keys 21, Gore 0 GORE - Nine turnovers cost the Pirates as they suffered a season-opening loss to Keys.
The visiting Cougars scored a pair of touchdowns in the final three minutes of the first half to take the lead on Friday night.
Gore will try to bounce back when the Pirates host Central in a District A-8 clash.
