The Grizzlies will try to bounce back from last week's loss at unbeaten Copan Friday night when Gans hosts winless South Coffeyville in a District B-4 contest.

Kickoff at Grizzly Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

South Coffeyville has struggled this season after moving to Class B and graduating a large group of seniors. The Lions are 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the district after falling to Covington-Douglas 36-0 in a non-league game last week. Covington-Douglas is ranked fifth in Class C.

Two of the Lions' key offensive players are tailback Gunnar Garretson (5-foot-7, 141-pound junior) and fullback Austin Lee (5-11, 175, senior).

In its 41-12 loss to Welch earlier this season, Garretson caught a 50-yard touchdown pass and Lee was on the receiving end of a 45-yard TD completion.

Four of South Coffeyville's defensive standouts are linebacker Brock Hayden (6-1, 205, junior), defensive end Bryan Tickle (6-0, 170, senior), Garretson and Lee. Garretson is a cornerback and Lee is a linebacker on defense for the Lions.

Lee has recorded a team-high 81 tackles for South Coffeyville. Garretson has 80, Tickle 62 and Hayden 54.

Other upperclassmen for the Lions are cornerback Jimmy Applegate (5-10, 150, senior), tailback/free safety Colton Faulkner (6-1, 167, junior), split end/cornerback Jake Hayden (5-10, 150, junior), guard/defensive end Cody Brown (5-10, 175, junior), center/defensive end Jonathan Seger (5-8, 190, junior) and guard/nose guard Danny Mavers (6-3, 220, senior).

Gans is 4-0 all-time against South Coffeyville, and the last meeting between the two schools came in 2003 when the Grizzlies beat the Lions 62-14.

Eighth-ranked Copan defeated Gans 48-0 last week as quarterback Preston Bartley completed two touchdown passes to tight end Josh Stanley (24 and 21 yards) and tailback Tyler Shull rushed for two other TDs (40 and 35 yards). Bartley also ran for a 43-yard touchdown, running back Colby Bonham crossed the goal line after a 4-yard rush and fullback Cody Lea had a 33-yard TD run in the game.

Copan improved to 5-0 for the season and 3-0 in the district with the victory while Gans dropped to 2-3 and 2-2.
