Football Roundup: Sallisaw tames Tigers, 39-7

Matt Mitchell ran for three touchdowns on Friday night as Sallisaw pulled away from Fort Gibson for a 39-7 victory over the visiting Tigers at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.

Fort Gibson took an early lead, but Kyle Underwood's two-yard run pulled Sallisaw even at 7-7 entering the second quarter. Mitchell got his first TD on an 18-yard run and David Hadley caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Matt Oberste with two seconds left in the half to put the Black Diamonds up 21-7.

Mitchell added touchdown runs of 13 and 10 yards after the break and Carlos Nieto booted a 25-yard field goal as the Diamonds improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in District 4A-4.

Fort Gibson dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the league with the setback. Next up for Sallisaw is a Thursday night road game at Poteau.

Muldrow 28, Hilldale 21

MULDROW - The Bulldogs kept Hilldale winless on Friday night, pulling out a close win over the Hornets on Friday night at Aubrey J. Henshaw Bulldog Stadium.

Muldrow snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 1-2 in District 4A-4 and 4-2 overall. The Bulldogs will host Tulsa Webster on Thursday night.

Metro Christian 34, Roland 14

ROLAND - The Rangers kept it close for a while, but Joey Rogers tossed three touchdown passes and ninth-ranked Metro Christian got the win over Roland.

The Rangers were within 13-7 at halftime after Cory Freeman returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown.

Metro Christian scored twice in the third quarter to pull away and led 34-7 in the fourth quarter before the Rangers' Jeremy Morris scored on a seven-yard run.

Roland, which fell to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in District 3A-4, will host Kellyville on Thursday night.

Vian 48, Adair 12

VIAN - The Wolverines bounced back from a loss last week to rout Adair in a District 2A-8 clash at St. John Stadium.

Vian improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the league, while dropping Adair to 2-4 and 1-2.

Next up for the Wolverines is a Thursday night game at Kansas.
