The Sallisaw High School junior class will hold a garage sale from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the vacant lot behind McDonald's in Sallisaw. The sale will have clothes, household items, furniture and more. A barbecue plate lunch will also be served for $5 a plate. The money raised will help pay for the junior-senior prom.
The Sallisaw Basketball Booster Club is sponsoring a Schwan's fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at McDonald's in Sallisaw. A percentage of sales from the Schwan's truck will be used to pay expenses for the middle school and high school basketball teams.
The "Meet Lawrence Mann in the Sallisaw Park" rally will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Sallisaw Creek Park on the city's west side on U.S. Highway 64. Free hot dogs and drinks will be served. Mann, from Muldrow, is running as a Republican for 2nd District state representative, against incumbent Glen "Bud" Smithson (D-Sallisaw) of Sallisaw.
The Father's Closet, a clothing ministry at East Side Free Will Baptist Church in Muldrow is having a special fall and winter clothing give-away on Saturday at two locations - 108 S. Main in downtown Muldrow and at the church's new activities building on State Highway 64N, just north of Interstate 40. Gore's Fall Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday. Gore Public Works Authority (GPWA) water and trash customers will be allowed to dispose of undesirable items, with some exceptions such as no batteries, air compressors, hazardous materials, business or commercial wastes, and no tires. A detailed list of acceptable and unacceptable items will posted at the Gore Municipal Building and other locations in Gore. The list will also be available at the clean-up site during the event. The location for drop off will be in large containers to be temporarily placed at the intersection of NW Railroad Street and Main Street (intersection of State Highway100 and U.S. Highway 64). Participants must provide identification and proof of service (a current GPWA water or trash bill). Designated drop-off hours may be enforced.
The Vian All Sports Booster Club Pie Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Vian High School cafeteria. State Rep. Glen "Bud" Smithson (D-Sallisaw) will be the auctioneer. The Girl Scout leaders of Sequoyah County will host a Teen Safety Seminar for girls ages 11 through17 for Make a Difference Day. Cherokee history classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Muldrow Cherokee Community Center. The classes will continue for six weeks and Shirly Dick Reed will be the instructor. The class will cover Cherokee traditions, culture, myths and legends, Cherokee traditional foods, and a basket weaving class on one night. The classes will meet through Dec. 16, and are free.
