A golf tournament, held to honor the late State Sen. Larry Dickerson, will be held Nov. 7 at Shadow Creek Country Club in Sallisaw.

State Sen. Kenneth Corn (D-Poteau), who was elected to Dickerson's seat in the State Senate, said, "This annual tournament is very important to me and to the people I represent. Our participation sends a clear signal to the members of the senate that the people of Sequoyah and LeFlore Counties care about the type of people who are elected to the senate, and that they are willing to financially support candidates and organizations who will help us better our state."

Corn is hosting the golf tournament.

He said The Larry Dickerson Memorial Senate Classic is expected to attract State Sen. Mike Morgan, president pro tempore of the State Senate, and other senate members.

"Like last year," Corn said, "the proceeds of the tournament will go to BackPAC, an organization dedicated to electing effective leaders to the Oklahoma Senate - leaders like Larry Dickerson."

The tournament will be four-person scramble, and registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 7. The tee-off time is 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served on the course, and prizes given away. Mulligans will also be available.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
