Members of Hanson Baptist Church will hold their annual Homecoming Dinner Sunday. The table service and drinks will be furnished by the church, and those planning to attend are asked to bring potluck dishes. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m. and the church service will be at 11 a.m.
Celebration Sunday will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Church, at the corner of Cottonwood Road and U.S. Highway 64 between Muldrow and Roland. The Revs. Randy Farmer and the New Beginnings congregation, and Kenneth Bynum and the Victory Temple congregation from Sallisaw will attend. The public is also invited. A dinner will follow the service.
The next General Education Degree (GED) test will be given at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Adult Education Center at 312 S. Walnut in Sallisaw. A benefit luncheon for the Drakestand Cemetery will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sallisaw Civic Center. The menu includes salads, chili, beans, cornbread, dessert and a drink for $5 for adults and $2 for children age 6 through 12. A silent auction and bake sale will also be held.
The United Keetoowah Band (UKB) of Cherokee Indians in the Illinois District meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the UKB Satellite Office. The office is located next door to the Vian Laundry on U.S. Highway 64. Come See a Man Ministry will present the 2007 Empowerment Conference, "Destiny's Calling for Kingdom Dynamics," at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Special guests will be apostles Trixie Morgan, Steve Garner from Chicago, and a team from Douglasville, Ga. The conference will be held at the Greater New Bethel Church at 1001 S. Gore's fall clean up will be held from Friday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 14. A list of items which will be accepted and which will not be accepted will be posted at the Gore Municipal Building and other Gore locations. The drop-off site is at the intersection of State Highway 100 and U.S. Highway 64 in Gore.

The 14th annual Sequoyah Memorial Hospice Run/Walk will be held Oct. 13 in Sallisaw. The run features a 5K run and 2K fun walk. Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. on the day of the race. The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m., and the 2K fun walk will begin at 9:10 a.m. The $10 entry fee includes a hospice run T-shirt. Registration on the day of the race is $12. The Fall Farm-Fest will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Overstreet-Kerr Historical Farm, 10 miles south of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for school-age children. Children under six will be admitted free. Groups of 10 or more seniors may visit for $3 each. Proceeds are used for educational programs. The United Keetoowah Band (UKB) of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma will begin a series of free Keetoowah Cherokee Language Classes in Sallisaw. The classes will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and will be held every Tuesday evening for 10 weeks from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sallisaw Central High School. Jim Henson will be the instructor. A beginning art class for serious art students ages 10 through 16 will be held from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization Activity Center in Muldrow. Marlene Phelps of Nicut will teach the class. The class is free but there is a $10 fee for supplies. A garage sale to raise money for a Christmas party for the children living at Boardwalk Apartments in Fort Smith will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Lincoln Youth Center, 1422 N. Between 60 and 70 children live at the apartments and most will not have a lavish Christmas. A hog fry will be sponsored by the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Muldrow Park. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the event. All children's tickets will be $4. The meal, cooked in the park, will include hog meat, barbeque beans, fry bread, grape dumplings and a soft drink. Native American music will be played, a horseshoe pitch will be held, and a stomp dance will be demonstrated by the Kenwood Group. Door prizes will also be given away.
