Sallisaw Career Fair To Feature Professionals, Military, Colleges

Sallisaw High School's annual Career and College Fair will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 8 in the high school commons and cafeteria.

Dana Parkerson, school counselor, said, "We invite all parents and students of Sequoyah County high schools as well as eighth graders and their parents from Brushy, Marble City, and Tommie Spear Middle Schools to the annual career and college fair. Career and armed services representatives and college and university representatives will be available to speak with all participants."

The following plan to have representatives available at the fair to speak with students about their plans for the future and career choices.

Parkerson said, "Students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of college, career and occupational possibilities. Business leaders in the community will be available to interact with students and answer questions regarding job skills, responsibilities, pay, and working conditions. They will have handouts, informative brochures, and visual aides detailing the occupation. Students are particularly interested in hands-on exploration such as trying on safety gear, working with tools or equipment, etc."

A presentation on Making College Financial Planning Count will also be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Parkerson said the presentation will cover:

*How to plan for and manage college costs

*Strategies to help prepare for the next educational steps

*Ways to navigate the college financial aid process

Parkerson said, "The presentation is offered at no cost."
